The Development of Students' Character Through Islamic Boarding School Education in the Digital Era at Miftahul Anwar Islamic Boarding School, Cigaru, Cibeunying, Majenang

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic boarding school (pesantren) education in shaping students’ (santri) character in the digital era. The research was conducted at Miftahul Anwar Islamic Boarding School, Cigaru, Cibeunying, Majeneng, Cilacap, Central Java, using a descriptive qualitative method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that pesantren play an important role in strengthening character values such as discipline, responsibility, and noble morality through religious activities and daily habituation. However, challenges arise due to the influence of digital media, which can shift students’ moral values. Efforts to integrate character education with technology are carried out through digital supervision and media literacy education.
